The Lead Room delivered a special display from the ever-inspiring world of killer kustoms and early-style hot rods. Given a prime position in the Goodwood paddock, the displayed vehicles allowed visitors to immerse themselves in inspiration and the history of modified cars. Dave Wright’s Gene Winfield-painted 1959 Chevrolet El Camino, ‘The Golden Idol,’ was a standout for me—you can read full details over on Kustomrama.
Von Leadfoot‘s amazing ‘Pink Peruvian’ Ford f100 and Ludo‘s superb ‘Mayan Riviera’ 1958 Ford Ranchero were also highlights. Both are rolling ‘works in progress,’ constantly being modified. Check out their Instagram accounts to follow their progress and see the impressive work already done on these beauties.
Following the Kustoms and Hot Rods, the LayNPlay folks put on a great show with their Lowrider Picnic, delivering a colourful slice of the UK’s low-riding community via static and moving displays.
Six Trey‘s 1963 Chevrolet Impala ‘Shy Guy’ was another stunning ride, impressive from every angle.
Honda NSX
As with each Retro Rides Weekender, the paddocks are separated by themes. One such area was the ‘Pop-Tarts,’ catering to all models with pop-up headlights. Among these was a lovely red Honda NSX, a VTEC super coupe sitting low on centre-lock wheels—not a common sight on the roads.
Sunshine and Laid Back Vibes
This is how car culture should be: eclectic. Everyone comes together to enjoy each other’s company and common interests, learn from each other, and find new influences from different sub-cultures within this vast auto landscape. There’s room for us all; whatever we drive or ride, the roads connect us.
