Local Delight
The prospect of Brands Hatch filled with Porsche cars, plus the fact that the circuit is local to me, meant that this event had been on my calendar since its announcement earlier in the year. However, a friend’s nudge reminded me to buy a ticket only a week before the event. I put this down to the lack of promotional activity from the organisers—which feels odd in this age of social media and connected advertising. How can an event run by a major motorsports venue and supported by the Porsche Club GB and Porsche themselves have so little media presence? Especially in a year that celebrates so much for this iconic German marque.
Across the venue was a mouth-watering display of Porsche cars to feast your eyes on. All the models, in all the colours, made for many photo opportunities. You could take your pick from classic to contemporary models. The Porsche Club GB enclosure was cordoned off with a white picket fence. While this area was for club members only, the low fence allowed all visitors to see the lineup of cars, and if you stood in the right place, you could even hear some of the guest speakers.
Porsche Cars GB displayed an impressive lineup of their range, including my current favourite, the 911 Dakar, with the Rothmans-inspired paintwork. Over in the pits, alongside all the team action, was a static display of the Hertz Team JOTA Porsche 963 LMDh sports car, as campaigned at Le Mans 24 Hours earlier in the year.
On Track
This year’s on-track action showcased the motorsport portfolio of Porsche Club GB. Headlined by the Porsche Club GB Championship, plus the Boxster Cup, Porsche Open Cup and the Porsche Club Speed Championship. Alongside the racing action were track demo runs showcasing iconic Porsche race and road cars, which included the freshly launched Cayman GT4 RS Cupsport and the 911 GT3 CUP car, driven by BRDC SuperStar Adam Smalley.
Final thoughts
I had a great day, filled with amazing cars, plenty of photo opportunities and time to catch up with friends. Only intending to spend a few hours at the festival, I left at about 5 PM, which might illustrate how much there is to see at this event. Keep an eye on the Porsche Club GB or Brands Hatch websites for details of the next Festival of Porsche.
