Blue Volkswagen in the woods

Bad Camberg 2019

Bad Camberg? I'll wager that you've never heard of it – unless you're interested in vintage Volkswagens. In which case it needs no introduction. If you're not familiar with historic German air-cooled machinery then let me give you a brief overview.

Every four years, a dedicated bunch of vintage Volkswagen buffers make the pilgrimage to Bad Camberg to spend the whole weekend poring over the intricacies of these vehicles. The International Bad Camberg VW-Veteranen-Treffen has been running for 40 years. Heinz-Willi Lottermann organised the first get-together in the car park of their Volkswagen dealership. Today, with its huge international attendance, the show has had to move to the town’s sports field. However, it’s organized and run by the Lottermann family and their helper.

Across the field and dotted around the town, you’ll find a great mix of classic Volkswagens and derivatives, all pre-1957 models and mostly stock. Everything from prototypes and pre-war cars through military vehicles to post-war Splits and Ovals. Not forgetting all the Bulli’ (Split-screen buses) and coach-builts from karrosorie like Dannenhauer & Stauss, Rometsch and Hebmüller.

Over 80 Porsches, spanning all types and eras, created a visual and aural treat for everyone who braved the weather.
