Summer sun, great people and an array of the finest air-cooled Volkswagens and Porsches displayed along the fairways and bunkers of the perfectly groomed Sandford Springs Golf Club made for a great weekend.
Following close on the heels of Lavenham, the Käffer Nation UK show provided another opportunity to indulge in the wonderful classic Volkswagen scene. With a very different approach, this event focuses on bringing together wonderful people and vehicles in the Surrey hills and caters for every taste, whether you like stock, custom or race cars. There were even a few hot rods and other classics squeezed into the stunning lakeside location, which even has a small sandy beach that adds to the cool vibes.
Lavenham’s old, crooked buildings make for a visually spectacular backdrop on any day. Add to this a fantastic collection of vintage Volkswagens displayed in different areas of the mediaeval village, and the result is a ready-made photoshoot alongside one of the best displays of historic Volkswagens outside of Germany.
Like many other events this year, Grill-n-Chill made a comeback after a two-year hiatus, and it did not disappoint. The weekend was blessed with beautiful weather, and the fields were filled with cheerful attendees and a diverse array of cars.
The Hessisch Oldendorf International Vintage Volkswagen Show is a highly anticipated event that takes place once every four years and is considered a pilgrimage for many Volkswagen enthusiasts. Due to world events, I had to wait an extra year for this edition.
You don’t get much for free these days, so when a new, free, car show appears on the scene, aimed at vintage Volkswagens it has to be checked out.

Heading out to LA in October usually means a weekend of fun in the sun. While we did have a lot of fun, there wasn’t much sun to start with. This was one of our regular ‘weekend’ trips to LA.
Our last chance of the year to visit this wonderful location. It’s a great drive over to Oxfordshire, if you ignore the M25 that is.
With a change of venue and only running as a one day show can our little event still deliver on the laid-back friendly atmosphere we’ve managed to create over the years? Well, there was only one way to find out.
Returning for the second year, Deutsche Fest aimed to celebrate all German manufactured vehicles. This year though, they had teamed up with Heritage Parts Centre to bring us a whole weekend of activities. Saturday featured the Heritage takeover – a full track day for German cars only, plus displays and evening entertainment. With Sunday came a full race line-up, club displays, and Deutsche Fest Awards. All the ingredients were there for a perfect weekend – cars, clubs, racing and an amazing venue, but something seemed to be lacking this year. I know first hand that it takes a lot to put on a car show, and it’s even more effort if you include racing of any kind, I take my hat off to the Deutsche Fest team for putting in so much effort. There wasn’t anything wrong, I really don’t have a bad word to say, I just wasn’t feeling it this year and it probably shows in my photos. I’m sure next year will be awesome, if you like German cars then make sure you visit and support the Deutsche Fest team.
