GRRC Spring Sprint, April 2019

The GRRC Spring Sprint is a perfect opportunity for a spirited drive down to Chichester to watch a broad mix of machinery thrashing out lap times. It's also relatively quiet spectator-wise.

“The iconic GRRC Spring Sprint will return in its 15th year on Easter Monday 2019.”

That was the opening line on the GRRC’s website. However, this was the first I’d ever heard about this ‘iconic’ event. I make no claim to be a font of all motorsport events, but how have I missed this one? It’s quite a low-key members track day. Attracting a mix of vehicles, from vintage chariots to modern supercars to fight it out for fastest lap bragging rights.

As a bonus there’s no charge to spectate, making it an attractive family day out in the sun. With low spectator levels and almost complete access to all areas, photographers are afforded a great chance to capture images. My intention was to practise my panning and driver shots.

We were blessed with amazing sunshine and a gentle breeze and to be honest I just couldn’t find any enthusiasm. My wife and youngest child were with me and we met up with a friend, spending most of our time talking. I had a lovely afternoon, but couldn’t get into the day from an image capture point of view.

I wasn’t going to bother sharing these images as I’m not over the moon with them. However, in the interests of documenting my progress, I thought I shouldn’t hide them away.
